Dating back to 1470, this atmospheric timber-framed dwelling reveals how Scottish citizens and reformist preacher John Knox lived during Mary Queen of Scots' turbulent reign. Admire 16th-century painted timber ceilings and oak-paneled interiors.

Descend beneath the arches of South Bridge into the pitch-dark chambers abandoned since the 1800s. Led by lantern-bearing storytellers, learn the dark history of bodysnatchers Burke and Hare, destitute families who lived inside the damp stone arches, and modern paranormal claims.

Traverse Edinburgh's dramatic volcanic topography without climbing steep hills. Stops include Edinburgh Castle, Grassmarket, National Museum of Scotland, Palace of Holyroodhouse, Dynamic Earth, and George Street with multilingual audio commentary.

Step into a simulated 'time machine' descending to the dawn of time. Witness volcanic eruptions that forged Arthur's Seat, touch a genuine polar iceberg, brave an indoor tropical thunderstorm, and sit back in the 360-degree digital fulldome planetarium.

Perched right outside Edinburgh Castle gates on Castlehill, Camera Obscura has enchanted visitors since 1835. Walk through the dizzying Vortex Tunnel, get lost in the mirror maze, and inspect the Victorian live projection of the city.

A picturesque working distillery located just 15 miles east of the capital. Discover the massive copper pot stills, sensory maturation warehouses, and enjoy tutored tastings of Glenkinchie's light, floral 12-year-old single malt.

While general entry to St Giles' Cathedral is free, this official audio tour unlocks the deep stories behind the medieval stone pillars, the carved Gothic woodwork of the Thistle Chapel, the Robert Burns memorial window, and the fiery sermons of John Knox.

A scenic boat cruise across the Firth of Forth to the historic island of Inchcolm. Disembark to wander Scotland's most completely preserved medieval Augustinian abbey, climb the stone tower, and view nesting colonies of puffins and fulmars.

Located at No. 7 Charlotte Square, this grand townhouse illustrates the peak of the Scottish Enlightenment. Explore costumed volunteer interpretations across 4 floors, from the opulent drawing room and silver dining table to the bustling stone kitchen and wine cellar.

A GPS-triggered audio trail providing scientific and historic commentary as you walk through Holyrood Park. Explains James Hutton's 1785 geological discoveries at Salisbury Crags, the volcanic plug formation, and royal hunting legends.

Edinburgh City Pass: Essential Traveler FAQs
Does the Edinburgh City Pass include Edinburgh Castle?+
Yes! When you select the 'Castle Tour & 20 Experiences' pass option, it includes a ticketed Little Fish Edinburgh Castle Guided Walking Tour with guaranteed entry to the castle. A professional guide escorts you past general ticket queues to explore the Crown Jewels, St Margaret's Chapel, and the battlements.
How does the free Airport Tram return ticket work?+
Every Edinburgh City Pass includes an open-return tram ticket between Edinburgh Airport and the city center (Waverley/Princes Street/St Andrew Square). This ticket is valid independently of your active pass days, meaning you can take the tram from the airport upon landing, activate your pass the following day, and return on the tram at the end of your trip.
Do I need to pre-book specific attractions in advance?+
Most attractions — including Camera Obscura, Dynamic Earth, Gladstone's Land, and the Hop-On Hop-Off Big Bus — operate on a simple walk-up scan-and-go basis. A few guided tours (such as the Little Fish Edinburgh Castle Tour, Holyrood Distillery tasting, and the Secret Nuclear Bunker) have limited capacities and require reserving a free time slot online using your pass number.
How are consecutive calendar days calculated?+
Passes are valid for 1, 2, or 3 consecutive calendar days (not 24-hour hourly blocks). The pass activates the moment it is first scanned at an attraction or guided tour. To maximize your value, we recommend activating your pass first thing in the morning on day one.
What is the policy for children and families?+
Child passes apply to youngsters aged 5 to 16. Children under 5 years of age are admitted free of charge across virtually all participating venues (under 4 at Dynamic Earth). Note that the Holyrood Distillery tasting tour is strictly reserved for adults aged 18 and older.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?+
My Scottish Pass offers a flexible 24-hour free cancellation guarantee. Unused, non-activated passes can be canceled up to 24 hours prior to your planned start date for a 100% full refund.
Can I visit the same attraction multiple times?+
The Edinburgh City Pass grants one admission per participating experience during the validity of your pass. However, your 24-hour Hop-On Hop-Off Big Bus ticket allows unlimited boarding across the entire route for a full 24 hours from first scan.
Is the pass worth it if Edinburgh's national museums are free?+
Yes. While national institutions like the National Museum of Scotland and Scottish National Gallery are free of charge, major heritage sites, underground vaults, distillery tastings, boat cruises, and castle tours carry substantial gate admissions (£18–£39 each). Visiting just 3 of these paid sights on a pass already produces significant savings.
