Loony Dook: New Year Firth of Forth Dip
About This Event
The Ultimate Scottish Hangover Cure
Started in 1987 by three local friends looking for a comical cure for their Hogmanay hangover, the Loony Dook has grown into a world-famous New Year's Day spectacle. In the picturesque coastal village of South Queensferry, brave locals and international visitors don elaborate fancy dress and take a freezing plunge into the Firth of Forth.
Costumes, Pipers & Coastal Cheer
The festivities kick off with the Dookers Parade through South Queensferry's cobbled High Street, led by bagpipes and cheering spectators. At the beach, hundreds plunge into the bracing waves directly under the towering red cantilevers of the UNESCO Forth Bridge.
Spectator & Participant Info
Whether you dare to take the dip or prefer watching from the shoreline clutching a hot coffee or dram of whisky, the camaraderie and good humor make it an unbeatable start to the year. Registration proceeds benefit the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat station.
