About Coburg House Art Studios & Gallery
Heritage background, architectural provenance & visitor guide
Victorian Grain Warehouse Transformed
Located on historic Coburg Street near the Water of Leith, this four-story red-sandstone warehouse originally stored bulk grain for local mills and bakeries. For over twenty years, it has operated as one of urban Scotland's most dynamic and successful artist-run studio collectives.
Over 70 Independent Scottish Makers
The studios house more than seventy practicing artists, including silversmiths, ceramicists, oil painters, textile weavers, and printmakers. The cooperative maintains a supportive, self-governing community where emerging and established Scottish makers create side by side.
Exhibition Gallery & Open Studios
The ground-floor Coburg Gallery runs a curated program of fortnightly contemporary exhibitions, showcasing fine art, photography, and craft design. During the popular Open Studios weekends in August and December, the entire building opens to the public, allowing visitors to tour workshops and buy original pieces directly from the creators.
