About Patriothall Gallery & Artist Studios
Heritage background, architectural provenance & visitor guide
Stockbridge's Artisan Creative Epicenter
Tucked down a picturesque cobbled mews lane immediately off Hamilton Place, Patriothall is the beating creative heart of Stockbridge. Housed within a complex of red-brick Victorian industrial workshops originally built as a bakery, stable, and flour warehouse, the building was saved and converted in 1984 by WASPS (Workshop & Artists Studio Provision Scotland).
Over 50 Working Contemporary Artists
Patriothall provides affordable, light-filled creative studios for more than fifty professional artists, sculptors, printmakers, jewelers, and ceramicists. It stands as one of the oldest and most successful creative studio communities in urban Scotland, maintaining Stockbridge's century-old reputation as a vibrant working home for practicing artists.
Independent Gallery & Exhibition Space
The ground-floor Patriothall Gallery hosts an eclectic calendar of independent contemporary art exhibitions, graduate showcases, and Edinburgh Art Festival events. Visitors can view challenging new work in an intimate, non-commercial atmosphere and purchase original art directly from Scottish creators during open studio weekends.
